The annual Scituate, MA St. Patrick’s Day Parade takes place on the third Sunday in March and runs from Greenbush-Driftway to Scituate Harbor.
In addition to the parade, the celebration incudes
- the Mad Hatter’s Ball,
- the Annual Mayor’s Race, and
- the St. Pat’s Plunge into the chilly Atlantic Ocean at Peggotty Beach.
These events are fundraisers for local charities. With nearly 50% of Scituate residents of Irish decent (highest % of any town in America according the 2010 U.S. Census), St. Patrick’s Day festivities are a local favorite.
If it is a cold day, bring a warm hat, warm gloves, and warm shoes. For a sunny day, you’ll want to bring sunglasses, suntan lotion, and a hat. The parade goes on rain, shine or snow. And of course, it is traditional to be dressed in GREEN (or orange or white – colors of the Irish flag)!
Mass transit is a great way to get in and out to see the parade.
